Help Us See The Future

Volunteer conducting a vision screening at a local school.

I was once told by a former boss “If you fail to plan, you might as well plan to fail.”

Put another way, without OLSHF’s Strategic Planning process this decade:

  • Over 20,000 students a year wouldn’t know they needed comprehensive eye exams
  • Over 100 Oregonians per year would still be legally blind instead of enjoying their restored sight
  • Over 200 Oregonians per year would not have the gift of sound from their digital hearing aids

And my friend Christina would, in her words, “still be blind as a bat.”

As we approach the new decade the time is right to set our sights on the Foundation’s next Strategic Plan, which will provide a direction for the organization through 2025 and beyond. We take our planning process seriously at OLSHF as this process in the past 10 years has provided us with the following features:

  • Our “2020 Vision” of one day all Oregon students having their vision screened and referred, when needed, for comprehensive eye exams
  • A publicly supported Vision Screening Fund, which reimburses Oregon schools for the costs associated with vision screenings
  • Our nationally recognized Vision Screening Program is projected to screen over 200,000 students for vision health issues this school year
  • Our own Lions Eyeglass Assistance Program (LEAP) optical finishing lab, manufacturing new eyeglasses for Oregonians in need
  • A retail optical shop, Eye Promise LLC, which supports the LEAP program through the sale of high-quality frames and lenses
  • The ROAR! Hearing Assistance program, making brand new hearing aids available to those in need for as little as $150 per hearing aid
  • A growing base of donors which makes all of this possible

Our Strategic Planning process will gather information and data, both internally (Lions Clubs, Board members, staff, clients, Health Professional Partners, Schools) and externally (Government officials, Health & Wellness Data, Oregon Business Community) and will utilize a process of identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and strengths to determine common denominators and underlying themes. We’ll assess ourselves honestly to improve in areas where we need to and will strive to utilize untapped resources that may be advantageous to the furthering of our mission.

And you can help us with this process.

Simply visit our website by clicking here https://olshf.org/front-page-slider/olshf-2019-survey/ and take a few minutes to tell us how we’re doing. Your input is important to us and will help us identify what we’re doing right and, even more importantly, where and how we can improve our services.

We’re also looking for OLSHF ambassadors that will share this survey with others, especially those that may not be familiar with our work.

Let me know if you’d like to help in this way and we’ll get you started!
