Thanks to partnerships with the Starkey Foundation, Sonic Innovations, Phonak, and RJS Acoustic Services, Inc., dba Vancouver Hearing Aid Center, Lions Clubs are able to offer high quality hearing aids to qualified people who cannot afford to purchase new aids.
For most adults and families, what insurance coverage they have is unlikely to cover the cost of hearing aids. The average cost of a hearing aid is over $3,000, far out of reach for the typical household.

Starting August 16, 2021, this form will be the only method to request assistance. Until then, you may also contact the Lions in Service line at (971) 270-0203 or e-mail the applicant’s contact information and request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your first and last name, mailing address including zip code, a phone number where you can be reached, and the type of assistance you are requesting.
For most Lions Clubs*, to qualify for the hearing assistance program, you need to have a household income that is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, have not accessed help from this program for at least 2 years, and have lived in Oregon or Northern California for the last 2 consecutive years.
*Lions Clubs are comprised of volunteers who fundraise throughout the year in order to help community members with vision and hearing needs. Sometimes your local Lions Club may not be able to assist you at the time that you request help due to budget constraints. Please be patient and await further instructions from your local Lions Club’s volunteer liaison in this circumstance.
We recognize that due to the COVID-19 virus, many people are struggling financially and are not able to afford many of the necessities right now. Thanks to incredible gifts made by the Eugene Hearing & Speech Center (EHSC), we are able to help applicants with additional hearing assistance at this time through the COVID-19 Relief Fund. Thanks to the COVID-19 Relief Fund, applicants are only asked to cover a portion of the program service fees until further notice.
The cost for 1 hearing aid is $75
The cost for 2 hearing aids is $150.
If you qualify for the Jane Eyre McDonald Fund the cost for 1 or 2 hearing aids is $0 (your local Lions Club will help determine if you qualify for this fund upon receipt of your completed application and proof of income documents.)
Once approved for help, your local Lions Club will work with a local hearing care provider in your area (we have certain providers who partner with the Lions, so please check with your club if you are wondering if your provider is one of our partners) who will determine if one or two hearing aids will be prescribed for you. Upon receiving the fees (if due), your hearing aid(s) will be released to the hearing care provider for the final fitting. Each hearing aid is covered by a warranty.
If you would like to donate hearing aids and require a tax deductible receipt, you can mail or drop-off your donation at the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation. You will be issued a receipt letter for your tax purposes. If no receipt is needed, hearing aids may also be dropped off at many locations around the state.
