About OLSHF

Together, We Serve

Since 1959, the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation has served as the nonprofit arm of the Lions Clubs of Oregon to provide sight and hearing assistance for people living in Oregon and Northern California. In partnership with the Lions Clubs of Oregon and Northern California, we offer programs that serve the most vulnerable members of our community.

The Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.

In our Patient Care program, we work with word class health professionals to provide life changing surgeries to clients without alternative options.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation is to help more children and adults see and hear.

Here, you’ll learn how you can help “Keep The Promise” of preserving the sight and hearing of those in need in your community.

Our History

Since 1959, the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation has taken an active role in protecting the health of Oregonians. Through nine direct service programs related to sight, hearing and health assistance, the Foundation has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of youths and adults in our state. We offer consistent access and critical health solutions to the most vulnerable members of our community who are uninsured or under-insured. We believe it is crucial to reach out to under-served populations, particularly where geography, language or cultural barriers may present challenges to accessing preventative care and appropriate follow-up.

Join us in fulfilling the vision of our Founders and Lions:
To provide life-changing sight, hearing and health assistance in your community!

Who are the Lions of Oregon?

Lions of Oregon and Northern California are made up of over 3,500 Lions Volunteers from 146 Lions Clubs helping those in need. From providing sight and hearing saving surgeries and educational scholarships to donating tens of thousands of eyeglasses to medical missions, we are committed to changing lives, building community, and investing in the future, one precious individual at a time.

We are proud to be part of the world’s largest service club organization (46,000 clubs, 1.3 million members, 200 countries). We’re also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities. Everywhere we work, we make friends. With children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat, and with people we may never meet.

The contributions of Lions throughout the region and the globe are immeasurable. In some communities in Oregon we run the public library, fund and maintain parks, provide educational scholarships, clean up the environment, support health-related causes and give thousands of free medical check-ups through our mobile screening units. It’s why so many in Oregon and Northern California say life would be unimaginable without Lions Clubs.

Striving to Keep The Promise

In 1925, Helen Keller touched the Lions International Convention audience with these words:

“Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness, no little deaf, blind child untaught, no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knight of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?”

As Lions, we made a promise, and we’ve kept it for almost 100 years.
